So, a tree has fallen on your house… assuming everyone is safe, it is important to vacate the house if possible and assess the damage to the home. If the tree pulls down any power lines or is at risk of damaging any gas lines, turn off your breaker immediately. Be sure to document the incident via photos and video from different angles. Call your insurance company to see how your plan covers the damage. Then, reach out to L and T Services to clean up the tree.

Your neighbor’s giant tree fell, and now half of it is in your yard (or maybe you are the neighbor). Who is responsible? If the tree falls during a storm or other extreme weather, the homeowner whose property the tree is on is responsible for contacting their home insurance agent.

Keeping your trees trimmed, removing dead branches and dead limbs can reduce the chance of having tree damage when a storm rolls thorugh. If you have a younger tree it is important to stake the tree to build stability.

If you have a tree on or around powerlines, it is important to get that cleared. Insurance carriers vary in their guidelines, in most cases insurance companies will not cover a fallen tree even during a storm if the tree is dead or dying. If a healthy tree falls during a storm or during an incident unrelated to you, it will be covered by an insurance agency. But only if it falls on a structure. It will not be covered if the tree falls and doesn’t hit your house or other upstanding structure.

After a storm, it can be difficult to dictate whether a tree needs to be dealt with. When addressing the tree be sure not to stand right under any branches that appear to be broken if larger limbs have broken off or appear to be breaking contact L and T to remove the debris.
