What is Diplodia?
Diplodia is a common fungal disease that affects stressed conifers, especially pine trees with needles in bunches of 2’s and 3’s. It leads to shoot blight, resulting in dead branch tips. Formerly known as Sphaeropsis tip blight, it primarily targets mature trees, posing a greater threat to those already under stress. The fungus persists in dead needles, branches, and cones year-round and spreads rapidly in favorable conditions such as frequent rain and high humidity.
